Getting Started
Open the Hedy app
Navigate to the Sessions tab
Tap the + button in the top right
Select Import Online Video
Paste the video URL
Hedy will detect the platform automatically and show a preview when available
Select your session type (Business Meeting, Lecture, etc.)
Wait for the download and transcription to complete
How It Works
Hedy downloads the audio track from the video and processes it locally on your device using the same Whisper AI technology used for live recordings.
Local Processing: Audio is transcribed on your device for privacy
Automatic Quality Selection: Hedy selects the optimal audio quality for transcription
Platform Detection: Hedy automatically identifies the platform from your URL and shows the platform name
Smart Retry: If one download method fails, Hedy automatically tries alternative methods
URL Formats
Simply paste the full URL as you would copy it from your browser or the platform's share button. Examples:
YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=..., youtu.be/..., or just the video ID
Vimeo: vimeo.com/123456789
TikTok: tiktok.com/@user/video/...
Instagram: instagram.com/reel/... or instagram.com/p/...

Best Practices
Choose videos with clear audio and minimal background noise for best results
For long videos, ensure you have sufficient storage space on your device
Use a stable internet connection for faster downloads
Select the appropriate session type to get the most relevant AI analysis
Import videos in your preferred transcription language for better accuracy
Troubleshooting
Download fails or video not supported
Ensure the video is publicly available (not private, age-restricted, or deleted)
Some platforms may restrict downloads for certain content
Try again in a few hours if you see a temporary error
Our team is automatically notified of download issues and works to resolve them quickly
Vimeo: "This video is restricted"
Some Vimeo videos are restricted by the uploader to specific domains or require a password
Hedy can only import publicly accessible Vimeo videos
Invalid or unrecognized URL
Make sure you're pasting the full URL from your browser or the platform's share feature
Remove any extra text or tracking parameters that may have been added
Check that the platform is in our supported list above
Download is slow
Check your internet connection
Longer videos naturally take more time to download
Hedy downloads audio only, not video, to save bandwidth
You can cancel and retry if the download seems stuck
Poor transcription quality
Ensure the source video has clear audio
Videos with heavy accents or technical jargon may need custom vocabulary entries
Check that you've selected the correct transcription language in Settings
Consider using a larger Whisper model for better accuracy (Pro feature)
Pro tip: For frequently referenced channels or creators, add their common terms and names to your custom vocabulary for improved transcription accuracy.
